Netflix to set up its Game Studio in Finland

Netflix is building its first in-house video games studio in Helsinki, Finland. The company has not revealed the timeline of production yet.

Amir Rahimi, Netflix’s VP of Games Studios, stated in a press release Monday that Finland is the right area for Netflix Games to name home, as it’s the birthplace of “a number of the fine sport skills in the whole world,” which includes Angry Birds author Rovio and Next Games.

The in-house Netflix mobile game studio will definitely be the fourth studio owned through the company, alongside Next Games, Night School Studio, and Boss Fight Entertainment, and it will likely be led by former Zynga co-founder and supervisor Marko Lastikka. But it’ll make the effort for the studio itself to be built, so we have to now no longer assume to look new video games being produced earlier than a few times.

“It’s still early days, and we have much more work to do to deliver a great games experience on Netflix,”  Rahimi stated. “Creating a game can take years, so I’m proud to see how we’re steadily building the foundation of our games studios in our first year, and look forward to sharing what we produce in the coming years.”

Netflix Games was released last year in an effort to push into the mobile gaming market. Its games library has more than two dozen titles, including Poinpy, Before Your Eyes, Stranger Things: 1984, This Is A True Story, Into the Breach, and the League of Legends spin-off Hextech Mayhem. It aims to have 50 tiles by the end of the year.
