Addressing the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the Prime Minister said that Pakistan is at “ground zero” of climate change despite contributing less than 1% of carbon emissions.
The Prime Minister delivered a comprehensive speech in which he raised the issue of Kashmir, the situation in Afghanistan, the war on terror, peace in the Middle East and conflicts in Europe and elsewhere. However, most of the speeches were about floods and climate change.

“As I stand here today to tell the story of my country, Pakistan, my heart and mind could not leave home. No words can describe the shock we are experiencing and how the face of the country has changed,” Shehbaz said as he opened his speech.
“For 40 days and 40 nights, the biblical flood came upon us, shattering centuries of weather records, challenging everything we knew about disaster and how to manage it. Even today, vast swaths… are still underwater, submerged in an ocean of human suffering,” he added.
