On Sunday 29th January 2023, the price of petrol was raised for the next 2 weeks by the government. As a step to control hoarding and artificial shortage amid currency instabilities, and growing international prices.
While addressing TV, Ishaq Dar the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue said, “announced an Rs35 per liter increase in the prices of petrol and diesel. The price of kerosene and light diesel oil inched up by Rs18 per liter.”
Following the increase in the new prices, which came into effect on January 29 (11am):
- Petrol — Rs 249.80 per liter
- High-speed diesel —Rs262.80 per liter
- Kerosene oil — Rs 189.83 per liter
- Light diesel oil — Rs187 per liter
Dar stated that “OGRA had requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the government to implement the new rates on an immediate basis to prevent the temporary hoarding and the speculations about the shortage of petrol.”
Geo. tv estimates how much it will now cost to fully or partly fill tanks after the price hike. According to the Geo. tv calculator, Toyota Corolla will cost Rs. 12,490 to fill the car tank with a capacity of 50 liters while the Honda civic will cost Rs. 13,739 to fill the car tank having a capacity of 55 liters.
Suzuki Mehran car tank capacity is 40 liters so according to the calculator it will be filled with Rs. 9992. Kia Sportage FWD will be filled with Rs. 2,498 having a car tank capacity of 10 liters. Toyota Corolla GLI and Altis will be filled for Rs. 12,490 having a tank capacity of 50 liters.
