The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has introduced a bill to reform university management. The bill, presented by Minister Meena Khan, makes the Chief Minister the Chancellor of all public universities, replacing the Governor. The Chief Minister will also appoint Vice-Chancellors (VCs), transferring more authority to the provincial government.
VCs will have a four-year tenure, with annual performance reviews. If a VC scores below 65%, their term can be cut short.
The bill requires women’s universities in KP to appoint female Vice-Chancellors, promoting women in leadership roles.
These changes aim to streamline decision-making and improve accountability. The KP government believes the reforms will raise higher education standards. The emphasis on female leadership shows a commitment to gender inclusivity.
The KP University Reform Bill could reshape the province’s higher education system, encouraging innovation and better governance.
