Government Approves Three-Day Holiday for Eid ul Adha

The government has granted approval for a three-day holiday on the occasion of Eid ul Adha, which is scheduled to be celebrated on June 29, Thursday. This announcement was made by the Cabinet Division in a statement released on Tuesday.

In accordance with the statement, the Prime Minister has authorized the following public holidays for Eid-ul-Azha:

  1. June 29th and 30th, 2023 (Thursday and Friday) for offices observing a five-day workweek.
  2. June 29th to July 1st, 2023 (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) for offices observing a six-day workweek.

The holidays decision came after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon in Pakistan. This confirmation, signifying the arrival of Eid ul Adha, was made during a meeting chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

The committee received reports of moon sightings from various cities, including Karachi and Lahore. Representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, SUPARCO, Department of Meteorology, and Ministry of Science and Technology were also present at the meeting.

Moreover, the decision was made after consultations with the zonal committees of Ruet-e-Hilal.
