Islamabad Hosts Historic South Asian Cross Country Championship

For the first time, Pakistan will host the South Asian Cross Country Athletics Championship on November 24th at Islamabad’s F-9 Park. This exciting event will bring together athletes from seven South Asian nations: India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Pakistan. Each athlete will compete on home soil, marking a huge moment for the country.

Former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf announced that a private housing society will sponsor the event. This shows strong support from local partners. Meanwhile, an official from the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) emphasized the event’s importance, calling it a “major milestone” for Pakistan’s sports world.

The Pakistan Sports Board has granted the required no-objection certificate (NOC). Thus, preparations are now in full swing. The government has also cleared all teams, including India, for participation.

F-9 Park will provide a challenging course with natural terrain, hills, and wooded areas. This venue will truly test the athletes’ endurance. With surfaces like grass, dirt, and gravel, the course offers the perfect environment for cross-country running.

Besides showcasing South Asia’s top talent, the event also highlights Islamabad’s growing role as a host for global athletics. For Pakistani athletes, this competition will provide an incredible chance to shine on home ground. Indeed, it adds a golden opportunity to their track record of excellence.

In hosting this championship, Pakistan not only strengthens athletic ties but also sets a high standard for future international events in the region.
