Pakistan Becomes #1 for Schengen Visa Rejections

Recent data from SchengenVisaInfo shows Pakistan has the highest Schengen visa rejection rate for Spain in 2023. With a 52.84% rejection rate, Pakistan tops the list. Nigeria follows closely with 49.85% of applications denied. Other nationalities, like those from Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, and Ghana, also face high rejection rates, ranging from 48.21% to 43.4%.

Overall, 9,766 Pakistani applications were denied, showing notable disparities in visa approval for applicants from certain regions. Many from Pakistan, along with other South Asian and African countries, struggle to secure Spanish visas.

Spain remains a top Schengen destination, attracting around 1.4 million visa applications in 2023. This accounts for 13.6% of all Schengen visa requests. The country approved over one million visas with a 77.4% approval rate, which still falls below the Schengen-wide average of 82.2%.

Meanwhile, some nationalities enjoy higher approval rates. Jamaicans, for example, see a 98.4% approval rate, followed by Indonesians at 96.1% and Thais at over 95%. Yet applicants from African and South Asian countries continue to face significant challenges in securing Spanish visas.
