P&G and Reon Energy Limited inaugurate a 1.86 MW solar farm

P&G Pakistan and Reon Energy Limited have inaugurated a 1.86 MW solar farm located at P&G’s Port Qasim manufacturing facility, 25 miles from Karachi.

This solar power deal is the largest for P&G Pakistan, delivering more than 2,700,000 kWh of renewable energy annually to the campus. By comparison, that’s enough renewable electricity to power approximately 500 residences in the area.

Reon is Pakistan’s leading solar and storage solutions specialist with deep expertise in project development, financial advisory, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and asset performance management.

Reon’s portfolio includes industrial solutions for cement, oil and gas, coal mining, textiles, dairy and telecommunications. Reon is committed to a sustainable energy future to enable economic growth and greater prosperity.

Grid Edge, a subsidiary of Reon Energy, is Pakistan’s leading solar and storage solutions specialist with deep expertise in project development, financial advisory, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and asset performance management.

The solar farm is part of P&G’s global comprehensive plan to accelerate action towards net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. The deal is expected to remove the equivalent of more than 1,670 tons of Carbon dioxide equivalent per year from the power grid.

Adil Farhat, Managing Director, P&G Pakistan, said at the ceremony, “100% of P&G’s manufacturing facilities in Pakistan are zero waste to landfill.”

“Partnering on this renewable energy project reinforces our commitment to environmental sustainability and brings online long-term renewable electricity that meets ~25% of the plant’s energy requirements. We are excited to work with our partner who is advancing our strategy towards a cleaner and greener Pakistan,” he added.

P&G is working on a comprehensive plan to accelerate climate action across its global operations, including in Pakistan.

P&G plants in Pakistan work intensively on the company’s long-term environmental sustainability vision by promoting sustainability practices among employees as well as with suppliers and partners.

Since 2010, P&G plants in Pakistan have achieved 38%, 59% and 25% reductions in energy, water and Carbon dioxide consumption, respectively.

Sharing his thoughts, Mujtaba Haider Khan, CEO of Reon Energy Limited said, “We are honored to build on our long-standing relationship with P&G. This first-of-its-kind power purchase agreement not only guarantees the supply of clean energy at predictable rates, but has led to significant economic growth in the form of jobs.

“Both P&G Pakistan and Reon have brought a vision to this project that will build energy resilience while bringing the nation closer to its clean sustainability goals,” he added.
