AIIB Looks to Invest in Pakistan’s Energy and Infrastructure

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is exploring new investment opportunities in Pakistan’s energy transmission sector. This interest emerged during a recent meeting between AIIB Vice President Konstantin Limitovskiy and Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Ahad Khan Cheema, along with the Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division.

Minister Cheema thanked AIIB for its ongoing support, especially during the 2022 floods, and praised its contributions to Pakistan’s development. He encouraged AIIB to increase its presence in Pakistan as investment volumes grow, emphasizing the benefits of stronger collaboration.

Pakistan also requested that AIIB consider financing the Sukkur-Hyderabad section of the Karachi-Peshawar Motorway (M-6). Completing this segment would connect Karachi to Peshawar, boosting regional connectivity and supporting economic growth.

Cheema also highlighted the importance of AIIB’s role in the Project Preparation Special Fund (PPSF), which is focused on preparing for the N-5 Project. The N-5, a vital national roadway, holds significant value for Pakistan’s transportation network. The Secretary of Economic Affairs urged AIIB to expand its project portfolio in Pakistan.

Limitovskiy praised Pakistan’s project review process and its cooperation with AIIB. He confirmed AIIB’s commitment to the N-5 Project and expressed optimism about future investments in Pakistan’s energy transmission sector.

With this continued collaboration, AIIB aims to support Pakistan’s infrastructure and energy sectors, opening new opportunities for growth in connectivity and sustainable development.
