Lahore recorded the highest Air Quality Index (AQI) in Pakistan on Thursday, reaching a hazardous level of 722, according to IQAir. This figure far exceeds the safe AQI threshold of 50, putting Lahore in a critical situation.
Karachi followed with an AQI of 188. Rawalpindi came in third at 183. Peshawar, Islamabad, and Haripur also showed concerning air quality, ranging from unhealthy to moderate.
Experts link Lahore’s pollution to industrial emissions, vehicular smoke, and nearby crop burning. This smog presents health risks, especially for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues.
