AKUH signs an agreement with Roche Diagnostics for an automated laboratory system

Aga Khan University Outreach Health Network, Roche Diagnostics, and Sysmex have signed an agreement to install a new fully automated laboratory system at the main laboratory and 14 field centers of the Aga Khan University Hospital across Pakistan.

Coupled with Roche cobas IT infinity solutions, these latest, state-of-the-art, high-performance automated systems are designed to give laboratories full and transparent control over their operational processes, whether in single or multi-site operations.

Through this strategic collaboration between the Aga Khan University Hospital, Roche Diagnostics and Systemx, AKUH will be able to meet the needs and increase the capacity of its laboratories not only in the capital cities but also in remote areas of the country.

This agreement builds on Aga Khan University Hospital’s historic collaboration with Roche Diagnostics Pakistan. It also represents a major milestone in the evolution of laboratory diagnostic workflows by increasing automation and minimizing operational intervention in clinical laboratories to reduce errors, improve efficiency and enable faster test results for patients.

During the ceremony Dr. Sulaiman Shahabuddin, President of AKU, congratulated and appreciated the efforts of all teams involved in achieving this milestone agreement. “We all play an integral role in shaping the nation’s health system,” said Dr. Shahabuddin and added that mutual cooperation between various stakeholders is the key to expanding and transforming lives through the provision of quality healthcare.

Shagufta Hassan, CFO and VP Finance, AKU welcomed this new partnership with Roche Diagnostics and Sysmex, expressing her gratitude and thanking all stakeholders for their hard work. She highlighted the high quality standards of the Aga Khan University Hospital and its Outreach Health Network: “AKU is the first Pakistani academic medical center to receive the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) and College of American Pathologists CAP accreditation. I am grateful to our teams who are working on the front lines, providing access to quality healthcare to millions of people across Pakistan.

Abdul Qayyum, Country Manager, Roche Diagnostics Pakistan, recognizing AKUH’s immense contribution to setting high-quality standards of excellence in healthcare, said, “Expanding access to healthcare services is an important step towards reducing health disparities. I must commend AKUH for its unwavering commitment to improving what really matters most: healthcare. I am proud of our long-standing partnership with AKUH and look forward to working together to expand our testing capacity beyond major cities to reach more patients across Pakistan. Together, we truly embodied our shared design vision.
