Gomal University postponed its exams after Gandapur’s threats

Gomal University (GU) Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) has postponed the private MA examination scheduled for 27 September 2022. The development comes after former Union Minister Ali Amin Gandapur allegedly threatened the university’s Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad. He called for the immediate resignation of Iftikhar Ahmad.

Meanwhile, the GU management has closed the institute indefinitely following a dispute with PTI leaders. However, the university continues the academic process by conducting online courses for all departments, institutes, centers, schools and constituent universities.

The decision to suspend activities on campus was taken at a university syndicate meeting held to consider all options after political interference. We have decided that keeping our students safe is the university’s highest priority.

Here, the issue between VC Ahmed and his PTI leader arose in July this year after the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government paid him Rs 3.1 million for the development of his DI Khan Agricultural College. Please note that, the agriculture college will be built on his 1000 canal land purchased from the GU and set up through the upgradation of the agriculture sector of his GU, which VC Ahmed strongly opposes.

VC Ahmed’s opposition to handing over university property to the Agricultural University also aroused DI Khan’s Gandapur. Consequently, Gundhapur staged a protest against the VC which erupted into a riot after students vandalized the VC’s official car and university property.

In addition, Gandapur sent him threatening messages urging him to resign immediately or forcefully dismiss him. Gandapur further claimed that he was not afraid of anyone and asked the VC to raise the issue in the forum.

Consequently, VC Ahmed wrote to Khyber. He wrote to the Governor of Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Prime Minister (PM) and the Home Minister informing them of the threats from Gandapur.
