Heavy Rainfall Forecasted to Hit Pakistan During Long Weekend

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that the monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are consistently making their way into the country, accompanied by a westerly wave in the upper and central regions. This weather system is expected to bring heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to various parts of the country from the 27th to the 30th of July, with intermittent breaks.

Regions including Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, and several others are likely to experience heavy rainfall and thundershowers, with occasional heavy falls during this period. Moreover, areas such as Kalat, Khuzdar, Gwadar, and others will also witness similar weather conditions on the 27th and 28th of July.

While the rains are a welcome relief, there is a possibility of flash flooding in Balochistan and hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan on the 27th and 28th of July. In other regions like Kashmir, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and others, heavy rains may occur from the 27th to the 29th of July, potentially leading to urban flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

Farmers are advised to plan their activities based on the weather forecast, and tourists and travelers are urged to exercise extra caution to avoid any untoward situations during this wet spell.
