The much-anticipated Murree snow season will begin on December 15, 2024, and run through March 15, 2025. Local authorities have declared a “rain and snow emergency” to ensure safety and smooth operations during this period. As the Murree snow season approaches, officials are working diligently to finalize preparations.
Preparations Underway
Tourists are expected to arrive in large numbers starting December 24, when winter vacations begin. To accommodate the influx, Rawalpindi Commissioner Aamir Khattak has directed officials to complete all safety and security arrangements by December 10. Moreover, Murree Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Shirazi has requested Rs17 million and 100 additional volunteers for operational support.
Tourist Facilities and Management
To improve the tourist experience and manage traffic flow, 19 facility centers will open at key locations, such as the Motorway and GT Road Toll Plazas. These centers will operate 24/7, offering essentials like raincoats, heaters, and communication devices. When Murree reaches capacity, authorities will divert excess vehicles to avoid congestion.
Traffic and Safety Measures
Authorities will deploy 50 extra traffic officers to manage vehicles. Additionally, they will collaborate with the National Highway Authority and Punjab Disaster Management Authority to maintain road safety. Once snowfall begins, real-time weather updates will be provided.
Advice for Visitors
Tourists should pack essential items such as tire chains, blankets, and dry food to prepare for emergencies. To prevent overcharging, authorities have enforced price controls on hotels, transportation, and food under Section 144. Ten price control magistrates will monitor compliance throughout the snow season.
