Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah recently approved two major projects through a public-private partnership (PPP). The first project involves a desalination plant for Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA). The second project focuses on a 17-story IT park at NED University. The PPP Policy Board finalized these decisions during its 46th meeting.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) will manage the desalination plant, using a design-build-finance-operate-transfer (DBFOT) model. A Kuwaiti company has shown interest in partnering, and DHA will purchase the water produced. The plant expects to generate up to 46 million gallons of drinking water per day, with plans to keep prices affordable for consumers.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government is advancing the NED Science and Technology Park project. This 17-story tech hub will receive funding through a government-to-government (G2G) agreement, with Rs1.7 billion already allocated. Construction will begin in late November, aiming for completion in two years.
These projects highlight Sindh’s commitment to addressing essential needs and fostering innovation. The desalination plant will fulfill DHA’s water demands, while the tech park at NED University aims to boost technological growth and research development in the province.
