The government has set up the NUST Science Technology Company at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) to boost innovation and research. Officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T) shared this update at a Senate Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday. The NUST Science Technology Company will foster collaboration with international experts to accelerate technological advancements.
The company, established as a corporate body, will be led by a serving general from the Armed Forces. It will operate under the Science and Technology Division, with its headquarters at NUST to ensure close ties with academic and research institutions.
The company will focus on research and development to drive innovation in key scientific fields. It was registered a month ago, and the board will be formed soon.
The committee emphasized the need to speed up board formation and create a clear legislative framework. They also addressed delays in digitizing the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority’s payment systems. Committee members warned of further complications if the system isn’t fully operational within two months.
Discussions also covered misleading advertisements for milk substitutes and unsafe food products like contaminated pickles. Participants called for stricter regulations to safeguard public health.
The session concluded with talks on merging the Ministry of Science’s staff with other divisions. The Ministry argued that transferring technical personnel to science-related roles would make better use of their skills and avoid disruptions.
This initiative at NUST marks a significant step in advancing technological growth and tackling Pakistan’s science-related challenges through focused efforts and international collaboration.
