Pakistan’s Army Deployment Approved for 2024 Elections

In a significant development, the federal cabinet, led by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, has granted approval for the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces during the upcoming 2024 elections. The unanimous decision aims to ensure a secure and orderly electoral process, particularly in sensitive constituencies where the Army will operate as the Red Response Force.

The Federal Ministry of Interior presented a crucial summary highlighting the essential role of military services in maintaining a secure electoral environment. The approved plan involves a substantial deployment of 277,000 officers and personnel from the Pakistan Army, in collaboration with Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel assigned for election duties. Together, these forces will function as a swift response force during the general elections scheduled for February 8.

To further enhance the preparedness for a fair and transparent electoral process, the Election Commission has taken measures, including freezing the funds of all local government departments.

In parallel, the federal cabinet extensively discussed a summary addressing the restructuring of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). While a conclusive decision on FBR restructuring was deferred during the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar has proactively formed a committee to delve deeper into the proposed reforms. The committee aims to enhance organizational efficiency within the FBR.
