Protesters demanding compensation for the Bhasha Dam project have consequences of reopening the Karakoram Highway, easing travel disruptions. The successful negotiations between demonstrators and SP Diamer Sher Khan led to the Karakoram Highway reopening for traffic.
Although the highway is now open, the protesters continue their sit-in along the road. They have warned that if their demands are not met, they will block the highway again. Their key demands include land compensation and the enforcement of the employment quota linked to the Bhasha Dam project.
The protest, led by the Missing Chulha Committee, began at noon yesterday. The highway closure caused long traffic jams at Bab-e-Chilas and Zero Point, severely affecting travelers. While traffic has resumed, tensions remain high as the protesters stay on the highway.
Stay tuned for updates as negotiations progress.
