Shahid Afridi Sets New Criteria for Selecting T20 Batters

PCB Selection Committee Chairman, Shahid Afridi took some crucial decisions regarding the selection of the national T20 team.

Speaking to the media, the former captain said the selection committee would select players with higher strike rates for T20s.

“No batter in T20 will be selected for Pakistan who will not have a strike rate of more than 135 in Domestic cricket,” says Shahid Afridi.

The strike rates of Pakistani Players in the t20 format have become a topic of debate among cricket lovers. Pakistani batters faced severe criticism for their low strike rates during the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup 2022. Pakistan’s team needs an aggressive approach in a short format.

The Chief Selector, Afridi, is actively making decisions regarding the selection and other aspects of cricket.

Pakistan’s interim Chief Selector was dissatisfied with the pitch for the ongoing second test between New Zealand and Pakistan. He said, “I am not satisfied with the pitch prepared for the second test. I want more bounce in the pitch. But it is better than the pitches prepared previously for test cricket in Pakistan.”

Afridi directed the curators to prepare the bouncy surface for Pakistan’s final Test match against New Zealand in Karachi. Afridi emphasized the importance of bouncy pitches for the Pakistan team. It will help players prepare for competitions in foreign countries with similar pitch conditions.

He also added three Pakistan Junior League star performers to the Test squad against New Zealand.

The interim selection committee chaired by Shahid Afridi held a meeting with Pakistan captain Babar Azam and head coach Saqlain Mushtaq. He stated that the committee will work together, and no one would be allowed to make team selection decisions independently.
