At Semmering, 2 more races were encountered by Mikaela Shiffrin this week. This includes, on Wednesday, the second giant slalom, and on Thursday, another slalom.
Shiffrin is closer to breaking the Women’s world cup record. At Semmering, Austria, she scored the 78th world cup win in her career.
To win the giant slalom, Slovakia’s Petra vihova was beaten by 27 year old Americans into second place.
Lindsey Vonn, the retired national, sets the target for women’s record, and now Shiffrin is only four wins behind it. She made the 72 hundredths in the opening run.
Mikaela Shiffrin said, “My form is good, following her four wins of the season.”
Since December 21, 2021, it was the 1st GS win of Shiffrin. More than 6 years of discipline (eight World Cup races, with one podium in the last seven) has ended with her most protracted victory.
Vonn won eighty-two times, whereas eighty-six times was won by Swede Ingemar Stenmark. These 2 are the only skiers having more world cup victories than Shiffrin, who is just 27 years old.
This week 2 more races were done by the gold medallist, who is now a 2 times Olympian.
Shiffrin further adds, “The start of a weekend with three races is always a bit nerve-wracking.” Previously from different departments, her wins came up within this period. This includes one super slalom at St Moritz and 2 slaloms at Levi.
Shiffrin added, “You hope that you’re in the right shape and you can bring the right intensity from the start. I felt very good today.”
The four-time women’s Crystal Globe winner for the best overall skier during a World Cup season leads the current women’s standings by 205 points.
Moreover, to win Olympic GS gold in 2018, Shiffrin is fourth in women’s history behind Swiss Vreni Schneider (20) and Frenchwoman Tessa Worley (16).
In 2022, at least one win by Shiffrin in all four primary departments, including giant slalom, super-G, downhill, and slalom. She completed that set for the 1st time in her whole career in one year.
In 2016, she scored 4 victories. Whereas she also won 5 world cups from the previous 7 ones at Semmering.
