The Punjab Small Dams Organization has marked a significant milestone by approving the survey and construction of six new small dams in the Rawalpindi division. This groundbreaking initiative, with an allocated budget of Rs15 million, is poised to enhance water resources and community infrastructure across Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, and Jhelum districts.
The survey phase, expected to conclude in the next two months, sets the stage for the commencement of dam construction around May or June 2024. The impact of these dams is substantial, benefiting an estimated 5,000 to 20,000 acres of land and ensuring a reliable source of drinking water for the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Beyond utility, these dam projects will contribute to the community’s leisure and recreational spaces, with plans to establish new amusement parks in the vicinity of these water reservoirs.
Notably, the approval extends to the Kotli Sattian Dam in Tehsil Kotli Sattian, located in the recently formed Murree district renowned for its breathtaking mountain peaks. This strategic move underscores the organization’s commitment to holistic development and environmental conservation.
Exciting plans are also underway for the Papin Dam in Chak Beli Khan, Rawalpindi, along with ongoing approvals for Khori Dam, Sora Dam in Attock, Ahmad Dal Dam, and Khor Dam. These projects signify a pivotal step towards sustainable water management, agricultural prosperity, and enhanced quality of life for the communities in the Rawalpindi division.
As these ventures progress, they not only promise infrastructural development but also contribute to the overall well-being and recreational opportunities for the local population. The approval of these mini dams aligns with the vision of creating resilient and thriving communities in the Rawalpindi division, setting the stage for a brighter and more sustainable future.
