Valve’s Steam platform continues to soar, setting a new milestone with 39.2 million concurrent users over the weekend. Of these, over 12 million were actively gaming, driven by the buzz surrounding major game launches. The Steam concurrent users record surged due to the releases of Path of Exile 2 and Marvel Rivals.
Grinding Gear Games’ Path of Exile 2 launched in early access last Friday and has seen immense enthusiasm. Despite being a paid early-access title, the game already drew over one million players and peaked at 578,000 concurrent users on Steam. The positive reviews from players have solidified its status as a hit.
Meanwhile, NetEase’s Marvel Rivals made waves with its free-to-play model. It reached a peak of 480,000 concurrent players on Steam, but its real success came on consoles. Specifically, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S saw over 10 million players in the first three days.
Steam’s growth this year has been remarkable. Starting 2024 with 33.6 million concurrent users in January, the platform steadily added millions each month, surpassing milestones of 34, 35, 36, and more.
The Steam Autumn Sale, which concluded on December 4, contributed further to this upward trend. Deep discounts on popular titles like God of War, Helldivers 2, Forza Horizon, and Red Dead Redemption 2 attracted new players and engaged existing ones.
With these major launches and strategic sales, Steam has solidified its position as a powerhouse in the gaming world. As we approach the new year, the platform’s growth continues to show no signs of slowing.
