The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has secured its position as the global leader in mobile internet speed, as confirmed by Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index. With an impressive download speed of 204.24 Mbps and an upload speed of 22.72 Mbps in June, the UAE emerged as the frontrunner for most of the first half of 2023. Let’s delve into the details of how the UAE has consistently dominated the mobile internet speed rankings and also excelled in fixed broadband performance.
According to Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index, the UAE held the title of the world’s fastest mobile internet speed for five out of six months in 2023, reigning supreme in January, February, March, May, and June. In April, they only slipped to the second spot, showcasing their consistent performance throughout the year.
Not to be outdone, the UAE also demonstrated its prowess in fixed broadband speed, securing the second spot globally for June. Within the region and amongst other Arab nations, it secured the top position with an impressive download speed of 239.2 Mbps.
While the UAE claimed the top spot for mobile internet speed, Singapore stole the global spotlight by offering an average speed of 247.29 Mbps, marginally higher than the UAE’s peak performance.
Etisalat, a prominent telecom player in the UAE, emerged as the champion of internet speed in Ookla’s quarterly reports. It achieved the fastest median download speeds for both mobile and fixed broadband at 216.65 Mbps and 261.98 Mbps, respectively.
Etisalat’s excellence extended to 5G connectivity, securing the fastest median 5G download speed at a remarkable 680.88 Mbps. Additionally, the company boasted the lowest median mobile multi-server latency at just 35ms, enhancing user experiences significantly.
