XPENG, a Chinese EV maker, recently unveiled its “Land Aircraft Carrier” at the Airshow China 2024 in Zhuhai. The vehicle completed its first public flight, showcasing its potential. Following the performance, XPENG received over 2,000 orders. The car costs 2 million yuan (about $280,000), and deliveries will begin in 2026.

The “Land Aircraft Carrier” has two main parts: the “Mothership” and the aircraft.
- Mothership: First, this large, three-axle vehicle acts as the base for the aircraft. It uses a hybrid powertrain and travels up to 1,000 km. Additionally, it stands on an 800V platform and likely uses XPENG’s Kunpeng EREV powertrain to maximize efficiency.
- Aircraft: On the other hand, the aircraft fits inside the Mothership. With just one push of a button, it deploys within seconds. Moreover, it only takes five minutes to return to the carrier. The aircraft holds two passengers and can fly 5-6 times on a full charge. Furthermore, the Mothership recharges the aircraft’s battery from 30% to 80% in 18 minutes.
