Finance Minister Backs AGP Act Reforms

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stressed the need to update the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Act. He based his call on the 18th Constitutional Amendment, Supreme Court decisions, and global practices.

On Monday, he visited the AGP office and discussed its challenges. The Auditor General welcomed him and highlighted the institution’s role in ensuring accountability.

Next, the Director General (Policy) gave a detailed presentation. It covered the AGP’s operations, stakeholder engagement, and audit impact on governance and economic stability. The presentation emphasized audit reports with actionable recommendations for promoting transparency.

Later, the minister commended the AGP’s professionalism. He urged Principal Accounting Officers to act promptly on audit findings to improve governance.

Finally, he pledged support for reforms and new provincial-level Receipts Audit offices. These steps aim to enhance oversight and accountability nationwide.
