How to Perform Eid Prayer: A Step-by-Step Guide

Prayer is a fundamental aspect of Eid celebrations, symbolizing gratitude and devotion to Allah (SWT). Eid, lasting for three days, commences with the Eid Salah (prayer), a congregational prayer.

What Time is Eid Prayer?
Eid Salah is performed in the early morning, after Fajr, on the first day of Eid. It is encouraged to pray in Jama’ah (congregation) with the local Muslim community.

How to Perform Eid Prayer
Preparation:

  • Perform ghusl (the ritual ablution).
  • Eat something, following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who ate dates before Eid prayer.
  • Dress in your best clothes and maintain good hygiene for this auspicious day.

During the Prayer:

  • Make the intention to perform Eid prayer.
  • Start with the opening takbeer (‘Allahu Akbar’) with the imam.
  • Quietly recite the opening supplication.
  • Follow the imam in giving 3 more takbeer, raising your hands for each.
  • Listen to the imam recite Surah al-Fatihah and an additional surah.
  • Move into ruku (bowing) with the imam, saying ‘Allahu Akbar’.
  • Continue the prayer cycle as normal.
  • In the second rakah, listen to the imam recite Surah al-Fatihah and an additional surah.
  • Give 3 additional takbeer with the imam. After the third takbeer, place your hands to your sides before going into ruku again.
  • Say ‘Allahu Akbar’ while moving into the bowing position with the imam and complete the prayer cycle as normal.

Please note: This is the Hanafi method of performing Eid prayer. Follow the imam if a different method is practiced.

Fitrana (Zakat ul Fitr)
Ensure you pay your Fitrana before Eid prayer to fulfill this important obligation.

Eid is a time of joy and spiritual reflection. May this Eid bring peace and happiness to all. Eid Mubarak!
