Punjab University Declares Holiday on 9 November

Punjab University recently made an official announcement, declaring a holiday on 9 November in commemoration of Iqbal Day.

According to the notification, Punjab University will remain closed on Thursday, 9 November. The decision to grant the holiday comes after a period of suspension of the Iqbal Day holiday from 2015 to 2021, leading to some confusion among the public.

On 8 November 2022, former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reinstated Iqbal Day as a public holiday. Subsequently, in December, the Interior Ministry also issued a notification recognizing Iqbal Day 2023 as a public holiday. However, the past suspension of the holiday has contributed to uncertainty among the public.

In a separate recent development, Punjab University achieved the distinction of being ranked as the best university in Pakistan in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2024 by Subject. Among the 11 subjects considered, Pakistani universities were ranked in 9 subjects, with Punjab University securing rankings in 7 subjects, solidifying its position as the top-ranked university in Pakistan.
