University of Peshawar Reopens Seerat-un-Nabi (SAW) Studies Department with Free Admissions

The University of Peshawar has recently taken a significant step towards promoting religious education by relaunching its Seerat-un-Nabi (SAW) Studies Department after a prolonged hiatus of seven years. What’s more, the department is now offering free admissions, fostering an environment of accessibility and inclusivity for students seeking to delve into the rich tapestry of Islamic teachings.

The decision to revive the department comes after its closure in 2016 due to a decline in student enrollment. The event marking its revival was graced by the presence of esteemed personalities, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali, along with notable religious scholars such as Mufti Ghulamur Rahman, Mufti Shahbuddin Popalzai, and Maulana Mohammad Idrees. The occasion also saw the attendance of the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mohammad Idrees, and former provincial ministers, including Maulana Amanullah Haqqani and Zahir Shah, among others.

Amidst the fervor of this revival, Governor Haji Ghulam Ali responded to the Vice-Chancellor’s appeal by not only announcing the provision of free admissions but also introducing a significant 30 percent reduction in fees for Arabic and Islamic Studies programs. This move reflects a sincere commitment to making quality education accessible to a wider student body, ensuring that financial constraints do not impede the pursuit of knowledge.

In a bid to solidify the department’s reinstatement, Dr. Mohammad Idrees, the Vice-Chancellor, affirmed the allocation of necessary faculty and resources without any delay. This proactive approach underscores the university’s dedication to nurturing an environment that fosters in-depth exploration and understanding of the rich Islamic heritage and teachings. With the Seerat-un-Nabi (SAW) Studies Department’s revival, the University of Peshawar takes a significant stride in promoting the study of Islamic teachings and fostering a culture of inclusivity and enlightenment.
