HEC and Microsoft Renew Partnership in Islamabad

Islamabad recently became the epicenter of a groundbreaking development in the realm of educational technology with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan renewing its partnership with tech giant Microsoft. The collaboration, marked by the signing of the Education Transformation Agreement (ETA), signifies a commitment to ushering in a new era of technological education in Pakistan.

The momentous ceremony, which featured an array of stakeholders and dignitaries, also witnessed the launch of transformative initiatives aimed at fostering innovation among students. The Imagine Cup competition, Founders Hub, and AI Skilling programs were unveiled as platforms designed to inspire students to showcase their creative ideas and entrepreneurial ventures. The event was graced by the distinguished presence of Hassan Nasir Jamy, the Federal Secretary for the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication.

The Imagine Cup competition, a flagship initiative, encourages students to delve into the realms of technology and innovation, fostering a culture of creativity and problem-solving. Founders Hub, another notable initiative, provides a collaborative space for aspiring entrepreneurs to refine their ideas and embark on innovative ventures. Complementing these, the AI Skilling programs aim to equip students with essential skills in artificial intelligence, preparing them for the demands of the evolving technological landscape.

Jibran Jamshad, Country Principal Officer & Regional Education Lead at Microsoft, emphasized the transformative potential of this collaboration, especially in the era of artificial intelligence. “In this AI-driven era, we are on the cusp of a major educational transformation. Our joint efforts with HEC through the ETA symbolize our dedication to nurturing innovation and preparing the youth with essential future skills,” he expressed.

The event commenced with an engaging welcome speech by Dr. Zia Ul Qayyum, Executive Director of HEC, highlighting the pivotal role of the Founders Hub & AI Skilling initiatives in shaping a future that is both insightful and collaborative in the realms of education and technology.

A key address was delivered by Hassan Nasir Jamy, the Federal Secretary for the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication. Jamy underscored the critical role of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence in today’s world, stating, “Adopting IT and AI is more than a choice; it’s a strategic necessity that guides our progress and opens up new horizons, leading to a future rich in innovation, efficiency, and boundless opportunities.”

The highlight of the ceremony was the formal signing of the ETA, marking a milestone in Pakistan’s educational evolution. Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Chairman of HEC, expressed his enthusiasm about this renewed partnership. “Our agreement with Microsoft is a pledge to integrate technology into education and to cultivate an innovative spirit. This partnership is instrumental in creating a dynamic and adaptable learning environment for our students,” he remarked.
