PTA increased the Taxes For iPhone X, XR,XS, and XS Max

In the era of smartphones,  iPhone is at the top of the list. As much as people are keen to buy iPhones in Pakistan, it has become even more difficult due to PTA taxes. It is also the highest-priced smartphone as compared to others. Due to the decline of currency, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) updated the taxes for iPhone. Currently, new restrictions on imports are planned by the government of Pakistan to make its economy more stable.

However, these restrictions work rightly for all the retailers importing mobile phones in bulk, but the consumers who import iPhones for their personal use find it unfavorable.

At this time, a new list of PTA import taxes is updated for the iPhone X series. According to the new price list from PTA, the tax on the iPhone X lineup has increased significantly. The amounts are different for activation on passport and CNIC. iPhone X, a smartphone launched in 2017, has a PTA tax of Rs. 93,271 on a passport and 115,248 for CNIC. Similarly, for iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max, tax duty has been raised. Here is the list of the updated Tax rates.

Devices PTA Tax on Passport (PKR) PTA Tax on CNIC (PKR)
iPhone X 93,271 115,248
iPhone XR 75,487 95,686
iPhone XS 99,375 121,963
iPhone XS Max 101,738 124,562

It is not easy to import an iPhone without paying about 70,000 to 120,000/-Pkr in taxes, clearly not a child’s play. As a consequence of new tax rates by the PTA, the prices of iPhones X-series increased unreasonably.

Every year iPhones arrive in the market with a whopping price tag. Still, the demand is increasing, and this led PTA to increase its import tax rates.
