Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif recently outlined his visionary approach to propel Pakistan’s economy towards prosperity, with the agricultural sector taking center stage. In a significant address at the Solar Tube Wells ceremony held at the Convention Center in Islamabad, Sharif shed light on his strategic vision and the pivotal role of affordable electricity in driving progress across multiple sectors.
In his speech, Prime Minister Sharif underscored the tireless efforts of Pakistani farmers who work diligently to produce food for the nation. He emphasized that the nation’s path to economic prosperity begins with the advancement of the agricultural sector. Recognizing the importance of electricity in fueling growth, Sharif stressed that cheap and accessible electricity is essential for the development of both industry and agriculture.
Sharif acknowledged the complexities Pakistan faced due to political uncertainties and its IMF commitments. He highlighted the significance of the IMF program in averting potential economic defaults. While acknowledging the stringent conditions, Sharif reiterated the government’s determination to navigate through these challenges and secure Pakistan’s economic stability.
Addressing the pressing need for affordable electricity, Sharif noted that the leadership’s efforts have been dedicated to ensuring accessible power for all segments of society. The Prime Minister lauded the initiatives that aim to provide subsidies on electricity consumption to those using up to 200 units. He also stressed the importance of renewable energy sources like solar power for both agricultural needs and domestic usage.
Prime Minister Sharif highlighted transformative development projects, such as the Diamer Bhasha Dam, which is set to create water storage and generate 4,000 megawatts of electricity. He underscored the potential of such initiatives in driving Pakistan’s progress towards energy independence and sustainable growth. Additionally, Sharif pointed out the untapped coal reserves in Thar, emphasizing the significance of utilizing domestic resources to meet energy demands.
